Mental tests

Many times as we go through our Aikido training we go through mental tests.  Sometimes they manifest as a technique that is giving us problems or feeling like we can’t do anything right and our skill level is getting worse instead of better.  It may also be that we have difficulty practicing with another member.  These are times that test our resolve.  Are you going to persevere and work through them or give up and quit?  Those who work through the issue ultimately become better for it.  Those who quit miss the point of Budo and training in the first place.  Ego got in the way.

In Aikido and in all aspects of life, we all go through peaks and valleys and it is our responsibility to learn from them.  Just as we strengthen the body by challenging it, our mind and spirit must also be challenged.  Do not give in;  Practice shoshin (beginner’s mind) and evolve.
