The Samurai Sword

Did you know there are over 1700 different styles of the Samurai sword registered in Japan?  As such, It makes sense that there is more than one legitimate way to use the sword.  Therefore, before judging whether or not the system is authentic, look at the lineage as well as its practicality as a method of combat.  After all, survival on the battlefield was the primary focus of having a sword system.  It was not until much later that the sword became an art of spirituality.

There are two categories of the samurai sword.  Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu.  Iaijutsu was the art of the quick draw art of war and Kenjutsu, or sword art of war, which are the techniques once the sword was deployed from the saya.  A skilled warrior new both.  During peace time, the arts were separated and people were able to study one independently of the other.  These arts evolved into what are known as Iaido and Kendo respectively.
